Steve's New Puppy

Meet Steve's new puppy, Jack. She's really not a demon-dog, she just has green eyes. Apparantly red-eye corrections doesn't work on dogs. And yes, she's a girl named Jack. Watch The Lake House. That's where Steve got it.

Changes to the Birthday List

If you haven't noticed (which you probably haven't, since it just happened), I added years to the birthday list. I think this is especially helpful for the grandkids, since it's hard to keep track of how old they are. They just grow up so fast! Anyway, please let me know if any corrections need to be made. Also, Cara, I had no clue what year you were born. If you could let me know, I'll get it on!

Loves!

Brown Trivia #8

This week's question:

During his Senior year, in what event did John place in the top 10 at the state level?

Answer to last week's question:

Mom and Dad were married in Moses Lake, Washington on July 15, 1961.

We could use your help....

For those of you who may not know already, Jordan and I have been trying to have a baby for a long time - about 2 1/2 years. We've been through all the tests, and there is no reason we shouldn't be able to get pregnant. Last month we tried our first fertility treatment cycle, and it didn't work. We are trying it again this month, and we would like for all of you to keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Jordan and I are doing a special fast this Sunday. (Fasting is going without food or water for 24 hours as a way to strengthen ourselves spiritually and to show Heavenly Father we are willing to sacrifice for the things we are praying for.) If you would like to join us in fasting and/or prayers on Sunday, we would be grateful. Thanks,
Sara and Jordan

Ashton's Sibling

It has been confirmed that Ashton's younger sibling will be a boy.

Monday, November 12, 2007

. . . . .

Words just can't express my horror. I wouldn't say it was a crisis, that's a little too dramatic, but it's definitely more than an occurrence. Traumatic. Yeah, that pretty much covers it.

It was a traumatic morning. I woke up and was getting ready to go to work. I was brushing my hair, trying to get my bangs to lay right, and I saw a little glint of something in the mirror. I took a closer look, and mild swearing ensued. I isolated the anomaly, took a closer look, and more mild swearing followed.

Yes, that's right. This morning, I found a gray hair. GRAY!! In my head!! GRAY, people! And not from my birth mark gray patch, either. An actual gray hair. The worst part is that it's not the first. A couple years ago, I found another little short one. I never say another one, though, so I could attribute it to some kind of fluke, like stress around finals time. Not this one. First of all, it was in a different place, and second, it was still sort of brown at the end, but gray at the root. Definitely a gray hair.

I showed Mom and Dad. Dad laughed at me, several times. Mom said, "Oh, don't worry about it. Talk to your sisters, they know what color to use." And then she laughed at me.

THIS IS NO LAUGHING MATTER! I'm 23, and I found a gray hair! I went to a baptism on Saturday, and the other Primary counselor told me that she found her first gray hair the other day. She's 28! I'm 23!

So give me the dirt. How old were you all when you found your first gray? Am I doomed to a life of premature aging and dying my hair, futilely trying to copy my natural color, which is FABULOUS, but who's days are obviously numbered?

And don't laugh at me. It's not funny.

Brown Trivia #7

This week's question:

Where were Mom and Dad married?

Answer to last week's question:

Invercargill, New Zealand (or as the Kiwi's say, "In-Zed")

*In the spirit of full disclosure, neither of these pictures were taken in Invercargill. The first is Wellington, and the second is Queenstown. Not that you would know if I hadn't told you. Invercargill was much uglier.

Brown Trivia #6

Hey, check it out! There were so many posts this week that the trivia question isn't even on the main page anymore! I'm so proud.

This week's question:

What city did Betsy live in when she was in New Zealand?

Answer to last week's question:

The Heisman.

There wasn't a single guess on that one! Didn't anyone know the answer? I thought it was pretty memorable, myself. I've even used the term in conversation.

New Job!!!

In case you don't know already, I quit my job at the group home a couple of months ago. I was miserable and sick of working harder at my clients' lives than I was at my own, especially when they weren't even interested. There were lots of reasons to quit.

I was just offered a new job (and I accepted) to work for an oral surgeon doing PR for her practice. It will be totally different and a challenge, but that's exactly what I wanted. I turned down another job offer because it would have been pretty dull and I wouldn't have learned anything new. I start on Monday. Now I have to go shopping because I've been wearing jeans to work for the last 5 years!

I'm excited to see you all at Christmas!

Monday, October 29, 2007

OOPS! I forgot to mention that the "warmer place" is Idaho, where my dad lives and my sister and her daughter are staying for a few months. Ashton wanted to spend some time w/ her cousin Valerie before they moved back to Virginia.

A Fabulous Idea!

I had a terrific idea today. Which makes it pretty much like every other day.

For the benefit of everyone else, we should all post our Christmas traveling plans on the blog. So far, I think Nath is the only one who knows them all.

Here are mine: Drive to Dave and Nath's house. The end.

Sunday, October 28, 2007

It's almost Halloween!

This year I decided to spend my favorite holiday in a little warmer place, where Ashton can enjoy trick-o-treating, carving pumkins, and other fun things. The weather has been sunny and in the 60's and 70's, so we've been spending alot of time outdoors and having fun. I can not wait to post a picture of her wearing her costume. I think it's the cutest, though it won't surprise some of you what she's going to be for halloween. You'll see in a few days. Happy Halloween!!
-Cara

We went for a hayride to the pumkin patch and Ashton picked out her own pumkin.

Ashton carved the eyes and nose all by herself. She used a very dull knife and it took her awhile, but she did a great job!! She's so proud!!

Too Busy Too Post...

Brown Trivia #5

SOMEBODY ELSE POST SOMETHING! PLEASE!!

This week's question:

In Jordan's words, what did Sara give him the first time he tried to kiss her?

Answer to last week's question:

Mike took Lea to Hermes for milkshakes on his motorcycle.

Friday, October 19, 2007

Brown Trivia #4

I can't believe no one posted between the last trivia question and this one. Come on, people, I know interesting stuff happens in your lives.

This week's question:

Where did Lea and Mike go on their first date?

Bonus question:
What mode of transportation did they use?

Answer to last week's question:

"Kianna" means beautiful. Nath's parents where going to name her that, but didn't. Sara got it exactly right!

Friday, October 12, 2007

Brown Trivia #3

This week's question:

How did Dave and Nath come up with the name "Kianna"?

Answer to last week's question:

Cara DAWNE Hagen Brown. She was named for her dad's best friend, Don.

Ha! Stumped you all! Suckers!

Sunday, October 7, 2007

I hope this is the picture you were talking about, Lea! It is one of my favorites.

Brown Trivia #2

Sorry I didn't post this on time. Friday was a busy day, so I forgot.

This week's trivia question:

What is Cara Hagen Brown's middle name?

Last week's answer:

Stevie Massano, from the inside of the truck. Steve made him come home and explain it to Dad.

Thursday, October 4, 2007

Ashton was excited when I brought out her winter hats and mittens. She couldn't wait to get outside. She loves playing in the leaves. I hope everyone is still enjoying summer!!

Makes Me Think Of...

The trivia question makes me think of another popular subject at family mealtime: How many uses are there for a shotgun loaded with rock salt? I can think of at least three, easy...

Brown Trivia; First Edition

Welcome to the first weekly edition of Brown Family Trivia! This is an event where (shockinkly) trivia questions are posted about the Brown Family!

Trivia Question #1 (drumroll, please . . .)

Who shot the hole in the red Ford truck, and was it from the outside or the inside?

Watch for more Brown Family Trivia, appearing every Friday!

Autumnal Equinox

Folklore says that on the equinox, when the day and night are equal lengths, an egg can be balanced on it's end. I think it's supposed to have something to do with harmony. Dad and I tested it:

It was pretty cool. Mom didn't believe it was really on it's end. Happy Autumnal Equinox!

P.S. - To read why this it total crap, click here. But the picture is real, I swear.

Good Wholesome F-U-N

Mom and I like to play Scrabble. It's our thing. We're pretty evenly matched, too, so it's always a toss up on who will win.

One of the things we were most looking forward to when she got home was playing Scrabble (the other was snuggling). We encountered a problem, though. I didn't have my own Scrabble board, and Mom's was stuck somewhere in the vast unknown of the house. I'd been wanting my own, though, so I went out to Wal-mart and bought the Scrabble Deluxe Edition (I've wanted it forever). It was a little more expensive than what my friend Jessie calls "the lame-o version," but it was totally worth it. The board has boundaries around the squares so the tiles don't move, and it rotates.

Last night we played an amazing game. We used all the tiles, utilized all the space on the board and came up with some great words. When we were finished, we were so impressed with the board that we took a picture.

That bottom word in the shiny spot is "tongue" (that was mine). I also beat my personal high score. Congratulatory gifts can be purchased here. What can I say? We're Srabble nerds.

Today, we went to Tyler's soccer game. Kianna had one too, but it was earlier and we missed it. I got there just after she'd finished. Doesn't she look great?

She loves Sadie. They're pals.

I did get there in time for Tyler's game, and Mom and Dad came a little later. At first I tried to take pictures, but I couldn't watch the game at the same time, so I gave up. I ended up with a bunch of lousy pictures and this pretty good one:

If you've never been to one of Tyler's sporting events (and you probably haven't) you wouldn't know how athletic he is. I went to a baseball game too, and I was really impressed both times. He's really, really good! He's tough too - I was really proud of him. Dave and Nath are great to watch games with because they get really into it. Nath will probably post her own pictures, but I know she's been really busy, so I thought I would put these up too.

For a last bit of fun, my friend Jessie (I talk about her a lot, I know) introduced me to a great website called Snide Remarks. It's written by Eric D. Snider, who went to BYU. He wrote "Snide Remarks" in The Daily Universe (the campus paper) and later in The Daily Herald (Provo's paper). Now he just publishes them online. He is HYSTERICAL. I highly reccomend him. My favorite column is "I PETA the Fool." When I read it, I was laughing so hard Dale came upstairs to see what all the comotion was about.

Remember, without a little F-U-N, life is B-O-R-I-N-G.

Oh, and I was called to be in the Primary Presidency. Apparantly the bishop in Delta has lost his mind.

Hey Family! We're finally on!

Hello everyone! I know, I know, it's about time! Well, thanks to Betsy, I'm finally able to contribute to the family blog. Thanks, Sis! We arrived safely home from Alaska and now it's canning, canning, and more canning. Dave is spending the majority of Sept. hunting and is wanting that big bull. (Another lovely trophy for our wall. HA!) Actually, I think they're kinda neat. :-) The kiddos are back in school and are enjoying soccer so far. Here's a picture of the only 2 silver salmon we were able to bring home with us from Anchorage. We had quite a difficult time with the Gilbert's boat, so unfortunately, we weren't able to fish as much as we'd hoped. Kianna caught 2 baby halibuts and had to release them. We all caught several salmon and cod, but these were the two best. Can't wait to hear from all of you. Love to all, Nath

Ashton the Cutie-pie and a Good Laugh

I thought I would post this picture on here for those of you who don't regularly check Cara's blog. If you don't, you totally should. She posts picture fairly often, and of course, Ashton is practically the cutest kid ever (her cousin Valarie is really cute too, but I think Ashton's cuter. I may be biased). I like this picture so much I've gone back to the blog like five times just to look at it again.

Say it with me: "Awwwww!"

And now for the laugh - courtesy of Steve (who should post on here, hint, hint):

We Are In Colorado!!

Spending the night in Idaho Springs, not Broomfield. We can listen to the music of Clear Creek and see a mountain from the balconey! There is a church here, so we will go at 9:00 and then be on our way home. Hallelujah!

Brown Folks Heading Home

Update: Mom & Dad are headed home. They left Indiana on Friday morning (8/24) and were through Abilene, KS around 9 a.m. (Mtn time) on Saturday. They plan to stay in Broomfield Saturday night, go to church there, then head home. (Home is where you hang your hat, right??)

We had a great visit with them. We played games, went Geocaching, and visited a lot. The kids loved having them here. Thanks for the visit!

Then we went to Palmyra. This is Dad at the baptismal site on Sesquahannah river.
Next, Dad and I by the fire place in the Joseph
Smith home.
Today we are in Kirtland. Tomorrow we will move on to the Searcy's.
Love you all.

Sadie, Franklin, and Fall Mailings

Sadie is my dog. Franklin is my car.

They have a tenuous relationship. They were rather wary of each other in the beginning. Sadie has decided that she likes Franklin, and eagerly jumps in when I open the door. Usually.

This is her preferred riding position.

As you can see from the flapping ears, she loves the feel of the wind in her fur. Not so much, however, in her nose. She snorts a lot.

Franklin is still unsure of his feelings toward Sadie, as she leaves hair on his upholstery and mud on his door panel. So far, he seems to tolerate her. Of course, as he is an inanimate object, it's hard to tell.

In other news, it's Fall Mailing time at Delta Animal Health. This means a lot of sorting, folding stapling and labeling for me.

A lot.

Notice how there's four boxes. That's right. Four. That equals 3500 mailings. So if anyone needs me for the next week, I'll be holed up in Dad's office amidst a sea of orange and yellow, probably talking to myself. Well, mumbling, acutally. If I was a guy, I'd grow a scraggly beard.

Good thing I have my dog to keep my company. Otherwise I might get a little weird.
